Ceramic mosaic

Ceramic mosaic is the most commonly used in our homes. Its thickness is usually from 6 to 7 mm. It is produced in several ways. The first of them involves cutting larger ceramic tiles into smaller elements. The tiles obtained in this way are then applied to a paper or polyester mesh. This solution is very practical because it significantly speeds up the installation of the mosaic. The second method is based on the so-called optical illusion and consists of skillfully cutting larger ceramic tiles in such a way as to imitate traditional mosaic. We must be aware that we will not cover surfaces with rounded shapes with this type of tile. The third method is the most labor-intensive. For what reason? Because when choosing this method, each element of the mosaic puzzle must be pre-formed and then fired using typical tools used for the production of traditional tiles.

Glass mosaic

It is no wonder that the extremely effective and resistant to any mechanical damage, glass mosaic, has been very popular recently. Its thickness is usually from 4 mm to 8 mm. It is most often created by cutting glass panes into small elements of a previously determined size. Small fragments are subjected to heat treatment or grinding, thanks to which they obtain the desired shape. Glass mosaic is perfect for bathrooms and kitchens, not only due to its durability, but also due to the fact that it is resistant to chemical substances.

Stone mosaic

The thickness of stone mosaic usually reaches 8 or 10 mm. It can be produced from any type of natural stone. Most often we encounter mosaic made of marble and quartz. Small elements are obtained both by cutting the stone and breaking it.

Choosing a mosaic and what's next...

Once we decide on a specific type of mosaic, we must take care of professional laying. Our work will consist of three stages. First of all, we will have to perfectly level the plane on which we will then lay the mosaic. The second stage involves the use of a special adhesive mortar, adapted to the type of substrate and mosaic. The last stage is grouting. It requires the greatest precision and focus. To make the spaces between the tiles even, we can use spacer crosses. According to many professionals, they are irreplaceable during grouting.
